SummerHaven Investment Management, a commodities investment management firm based in Stamford, CT is creating a new position of Controller within the COO group. This new role is expected to begin in July 2017. The position is a full-time position and will report to the COO of the firm. Compensation and benefits are market based and competitive with other similar positions in the industry.

Skills and experience:
The candidate should have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to work in a heavily team oriented environment. The ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively is essential. The candidate should be highly organized, able to multi-task and complete assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner. An Undergraduate degree from a four year college in accounting and a minimum of five years’ work experience in a similar or related function in accounting is required. A CPA and prior experience in fund accounting is considered a plus. The highest standards of ethics, integrity, honesty and teamwork are mandatory and are critical to success in this role.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounting across multiple legal entities
  • Responsible for online accounts payable system
  • Manage credit card process and implement enhancements
  • Reconcile bank statements and cash
  • Assist in tax preparation
  • Verify Management and Incentive fees received by firm
  • Maintain annual budget and preform variance analysis to actual performance
  • Conduct special projects as requested
  • Implement expense account automation

Fund Accounting

  • Manage and execute margin calls as needed
  • Reconcile activity between Corporate accounts and Fund accounts
  • Perform back up duties to settlement process
  • Review all Fund contracts and fund capital activity

Work closely with CFO/COO on following

  • Monthly financial reporting for corporate and fund accounting
  • Tax planning and compliance for corporate and funds
  • Budget preparation, review and forecasting for fund and corporate entities
  • Quarterly tax payments and filings
  • Annual audits for all funds
  • Review monthly fund reports
  • Assist in new product launches
  • Oversee corporate payroll, 401k, medical, dental and life insurance
  • Create MIS tools with relevant metrics for senior management to review all corporate functions (COO, Marketing/IT, Trading and Research)
